Loyola (La.) 3, Alcorn State 1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-22)
Box Score

NEW ORLEANS - Alcorn State was unable to cash in on a strong start during a four-set loss at Loyola (La.) Monday night.

Alcorn (0-4) took the opening set 25-21. Both sides committed a number of errors, but the Lady Braves found themselves ahead 19-15 heading into a timeout. From there, the teams went back-and-forth before Alcorn took the match point for the early lead.

Loyola (3-2) took over the match from there. After an early 1-1 tie, Allison Hartmann scored a kill to give the Wolf Pack the lead and they didn't surrender it for the remainder of the set. Loyola went up 17-12 and would finish 25-18 to knot the match at 1-1.

In set three, three straight aces by Hartmann powered a 9-1 run that put Loyola in control 15-6. Alcorn struggled with self-inflicted gaffes and was unable to get back into the frame. The Wolf Pack led 16-9 in the decisive set, but Alcorn fought back to tie the score at 18-18, 20-20, and 21-21. Singryd Valadares (12 kills) registered a kill to give the Lady Braves a 22-21 advantage, but three straight points by Malea Howie allowed Loyola to claim the set and the match.

For Alcorn, Daharri Thompkins and Alondra Rivera Modesto (four blocks) followed with seven kills each, while Octavia Dixon and Fiapiapia Iosia both recorded five kills, with Iosia adding 12 digs. Jasmine Chambers earned 24 assists.

On defense, Kaylyn Latin made 13 digs.
