Tennis: Seedings revealed for SWAC Championship

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The final matches for the SWAC tennis conference schedule were completed on Friday as Alabama State emerged with a 6-1 victory against Alabama A&M on the men’s side and the Lady Hornets won their match versus the Lady Bulldogs 7-0 on the women’s side at Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

 

The Hornets (6-0 SWAC) completed an undefeated regular season with wins from No. 1 Ion Efrim (won 6-0, 6-3 against Nishangan Nadaraja), No. 2 Carl-Louis Luckmann (won 6-4, 6-2 against Carlos Salas), No. 3 Tomas Fernandez (won 6-1, 6-0 over Shakir Elvin), No. 5 Chris Andre (beat Fermin Ruiz Gespo 6-4, 7-5) and No. 6 Alejo Calvis (defeated Joshua Wilson 6-1, 6-1) in singles competition. 

 

The Bulldogs’ No. 4 singles player Mateo Monroy picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 win to break up the sweep against Alexis Collard for Alabama A&M.

 

Efrim and Collard teamed to top Nadajara and Elvin at the No. 1 doubles position 6-4 while Calvis and Andre secured the doubles point by getting past Cristian Bigott and Gespo 6-4. 

 

On the ladies’ side, the Lady Hornets (8-0 SWAC) also completed an undefeated regular season by sweeping the Lady Bulldogs 7-0 behind victories from No. 1 Reka Szentas (6-1, 6-0 versus Virag Hollos), No. 2 Chloe Kabama (6-3, 6-3 against Rida Khalid), No. 3 Gabriela Lackova (defeated Ayana Kawai Rengill 6-1, 6-1), No. 4 Lea Krajcovicova (topped Nthabiseng Mashengo 6-0, 6-0), No. 5 Marija Blazevic (beat Alyssa Williams 6-1, 6-1) and No. 6 player Margo Muller (upended Jazmine Lawson 6-3, 6-2) to round out singles competition.

 

In doubles play, Szentes and Kabamba took care of Hollos and Khalid 6-1 and Krajcovicova and Lackova defeated Rengill and Mashengo 6-1 to secure the doubles point. 

 

With all conference matches now played, it finalized the seedings for the 2018 SWAC Tennis Championships that will be held April 13-15 at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.
