MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Day one of the second SWAC Round Up served as a continuation of matches not finished from the first SWAC Round Up of the season in Baton Rouge due to inclement weather and also started some of the matches that were originally slated for the Montgomery Round Up a day earlier than expected with rain once again in the forecast this weekend.


Play was split up between the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on the campus of Alabama State University as well as Lagoon Park Tennis Center, also located in Montgomery. 



Among the highlights on the women’s side of the standings, Southern, Alabama State and Prairie View A&M all helped themselves by picking up important conference victories during Thursday’s play.


Southern won both of its matches, defeating Alabama A&M 4-2 and then swept Arkansas-Pine Bluff 4-0 later in the day to improve to 4-2 in SWAC play. 


Rufaro Chirewa, Tanaka Chakanyuka, Nicki Neal and Mia Kent all earned straight set victories for the Lady Jaguars in singles play versus the Lady Bulldogs.  Chakanyuka also won her match up at the No. 3 singles position against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and also teamed with Stephanie Mbaya to win their No. 1 doubles match against the Golden Lions.  Southern won the other matches by default. 


Alabama State moved to 3-0 in conference play as Gabriela Lackova, Mirna Curcic, and Margo Muller all won in singles action while Lea Krajcovicova and Lackova teamed to win from the No. 2 doubles position.  The Lady Hornets won handily and it did not drop a single game in those matches. 

Prairie View A&M improved to 2-1 in conference play with a 4-1 win over Alabama A&M.   


Neharika Rama, J. Duran-Castellanos, Shaddae Findley and Timara Maxwell won in straight sets for the Lady Panthers while Virag Hollos earned the lone victory for the Lady Bulldogs from the No. 1 singles spot.



Alabama State swept Mississippi Valley State 4-0 behind a strong effort from Carl-Louis Luckmann, Alexis Collard and Chris Andre, who did not drop a single game in singles play.  Andrej Trajkovski and Collard won 6-0 at the No. 1 doubles spot to complete the sweep.


Prairie View A&M improved to 2-1 in SWAC play with a 4-1 triumph over Alabama A&M at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.  Xavier Lawrence, Anirudh Yadav, Taqel Lewis, and Kevin Ugarteche all won their matches in singles action for the Panthers.
