PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The host Panthers dropped both of their matches to the Roadrunners (4-5) on Wednesday at the PVAMU Tennis Courts in nonconference action.


In the second match, Juri Reckow topped Anirudh Yadav 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position, Javier Gonzalez defeated Zach Suico 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot, Joao Ceolin upended Rodrigo Yoshikata 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 and Igor Cantanhede beat Cesar Rayna 6-0, 6-3. 


The Panthers’ No. 1 player Xavier Lawerence and No. 6 player Kevin Ugarteche each did not finish their match. 


In the first match, USTA’s No. 1 player Kai Bretbach got past Ulrick Boyogueno 6-3, 6-0.  The Panthers’ Taqel Lewis fell 6-2, 6-1 to Javier Gonzalez at No. 4 and Ugarteche dropped his decision at the No. 5 spot to Joao Ceolin 6-1, 6-1. 


The Panthers’ doubles teams all lost by a margin of two or fewer. 


Samford 7, Alabama A&M 0

BIRMINGHAM, ALA – Samford picked up the first point of the match by winning on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts to take the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Jake Faundez and Hugo Moreira defeated Nishangan Nadaraja and Shakir Elvin, 6-0.

On the No. 2 doubles court, Rossouw Norval and Aleksandar Petrovic defeated Cristian Bigott and Fermin Ruiz Gespo, 6-2.   Samford won all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Faundez defeated Nadaraja, 6-2, 6-1.

On the No. 2 singles court, Justin Ghavami earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over Bigott. At No. 3 singles, Norval defeated Elvin, 6-0, 6-0.  

On the No. 4 singles court, Petrovic defeated Carlos Salas, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Moreira defeated Mateo Monroy, 6-3, 6-0. At the No. 6 spot, Max Rebol picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gespo.  

With the win, Samford improves to 3-2. Alabama A&M falls to 0-1 with the loss.
