BEAUMONT, TX. – The Panthers No. 6 singles player Kevin Ugarteche picked up the lone victory for Prairie View A&M by defeating Andrew Guymon 6-2, 6-2 at Lamar University.

No. 1 Ulrick Boyogueno, No. 3 Anirudh Yadav, and Rodrigo Yoshikata all took straight sets defeats in singles competition for the Panthers while the duos of Boyogueno/Yadav and Cesar Rayna/Zach Suico each lost in doubles play.

OXFORD, MS – Due to recent cold climates in the area, the season opener for the Alcorn State University men's tennis program was moved indoors to the Ole Miss Indoor Tennis Center where the Rebels took a pair of 4-0 results over the Braves on Sunday.


Ole Miss has three singles players ranked in the top-70 and one doubles team ranked in the top-20.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Suyash Gupta and Johnatan Parat got on the board against Ole Miss' top-20 tandem of Tim Sandkaulen and Fabian Fallert in a 6-1 effort.


Singles play was highlighted by newcomer Stojan Stojanovski putting up a fight against Fallert at the No. 4 position. Stojanovski trailed just 5-4 in the first set when the match went unfinished after the Rebels clinched the overall match.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE 7, ALABAMA STATE 0
MURFREESBORO, TN – Defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State dropped their season opener 7-0 to Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon.


Middle Tennessee (4-1) jumped out early on Alabama State (0-1) by winning both doubles matches. The Blue Raiders' top team of Tom Moonen and Chris Edge defeated Alabama State's team of Ion Efrim and Alexis Collard, 6-0; before the number three team of Alabama State's Tomas Fernandez and Carl-Louis Luckmann fell 6-1.


In singles play, Collard dropped his first collegiate singles match to Moonen 6-2, 6-1 to give Middle Tennessee a 3-0 overall lead in the match. The Blue Raiders clinched the match when Luckmann fell to Middle Tennessee's Nicolas Buitrago 6-1, 6-4 at number four singles.


Fernandez pushed his match to the brink of going three sets, before falling to Chris Edge of Middle Tennessee 6-1, 7-5.

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – No. 4 singles player Zach Suico gave the Panthers their most competitive fight, dropping a 6-3, 7-6 match to the Islanders’ Lars Bijsterbosch during the opening match of the day at the Prairie View A&M Tennis Center.

During the second match of the day, Panthers teammates Ulrick Boyogueno/Anirudh Yadav def. Francois Kellerman/Okkie Kellerman 6-4. However, Prairie View dropped the doubles point by losing the next two matches.

No. 2 player Xavier Lawerence took the opening set from Francois Kellerman 6-1 before dropping the next set 6-3 and the tie-break 10-8.
