South Dakota State 9, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 0 (F/5)
Austin Peay 8, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 1
CONWAY, Ark. - Arkansas-Pine Bluff concluded its play in Central Arkansas' Invitational on a less-than-stellar note, falling 9-0 to South Dakota and taking an 8-1 loss versus Austin Peay Monday at Farris Field.
Against the Jackrabbits, all of the damage came in the first inning, where South Dakota batted around. Down 2-0 with a chance to get out of the inning, UAPB missed its chance thanks to an untimely error committed by Alexandria Taylor that allowed the Jackrabbits to extend the frame. All told, at the end of the first, South Dakota led 9-0.
UAPB starter Karia Hall managed to settle down from that point, allowing one hit the rest of the way. However, UAPB's offense never got on track against USD starter Taylor Compton, who limited the Lady Lions to three hits. Hall was charged with the loss, allowing three earned runs (nine total) on seven hits and four walks.
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff offense didn't fare much better against Austin Peay, mustering six hits. Similar to its setback against the Jackrabbits, UAPB allowed Austin Peay a fast start to where APSU led 8-0 at the end of three. The lone bit of offense came via a RBI triple by Tonnay Hawkins in the fifth inning.
Danielle Liermann had a big day for APSU, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and a home run.
