BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -  In the final regular-season honors of the season, Alabama State pitcher Justine Jean and Prairie View A&M infielder Laurisa Hernandez have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as softball players of the week for their exceptional efforts during games played from April 24-29.

Softball Hitter of the Week - Laurisa Hernandez, Prairie View A&M
IF | Jr. | 5-10 | Fremont, Calif.

Hernandez hit .363 (4-11) against the Western Divsion-leading Texas Southern Lady Tigers during the Lady Panthers' series win this past weekend. The junior slugger delivered big power numbers off of the league's top-ranked pitching staff, driving in seven runs and picking up three extra-base hits. In Prairie View A&M's 8-2 win over TSU on Friday, Hernandez was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in five RBI, including a two-run triple and a three-run homer. She would put another out of the park during the team's 9-8 win over the Lady Tigers, as Prairie View became the first SWAC team to take a series from TSU since the 2015 season. Hernandez is batting .364 on the year, good for eighth-best in the confere.ce

During Alabama State's three-game series against Jackson State, Jean picked up another two victories in league play for the Lady Hornets, tossing two complete games in the process. On April 28, Jean pitched another complete game, allowing four earned runs and striking out six. In 13 total innings of work, Jean posted a 3.00 ERA.
