Texas Southern's season ends versus Texas
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas Southern's 2017 campaign came to an end following an 8-0 loss to the University of Texas during the elimination round of the NCAA Women's Softball Tournament at the College Station Regional.
After trading a scoreless first, Texas Southern (25-21) fell behind as the Longhorns' (32-25) Stephanie Wong took a Lauren Rodriguez pitch out of the park for a three-run shot in the second inning. As the Lady Tigers were limited to one hit, Texas continued to pad its lead, adding two runs in each of the third and fourth innings before adding one more in the bottom of the fifth, forcing the run-rule victory.
TSU's lone hit was compliments of Sierra Valdez. Tuesda DerMargosian had two RBI for Texas, and Kelli Hanzel was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Rodriguez took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in a 3.0-inning outing.
