Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La. – Redshirt-senior Viktoriya Mihaylovascored a free kick from just outside the penalty box and the Alcorn State University women's soccer team earned a 3-2 overtime victory over Southern Tuesday night at Jaguar Park.

Mihaylova paced the Alcorn attack with 5-of-7 shots on target. Also scoring for the Lady Braves were redshirt-sophomore Rita Okoro and senior Alexandra Salvador. Okoro placed 2-of-5 shots on frame and Salvador converted her lone shot. Freshman keeper Kameran Probyrecorded six saves in 96 minutes of work and improves to 4-6 on the season.

The Lady Jaguars (0-13-1, 0-8-1 SWAC) struck first as Akosua Allen cleaned up a rebound in the 23rd minute. Alcorn outshot the hosts 9-3 in the opening half, but could not find the back of the net as Southern took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Okoro evened the game at 1-1 early in the second half as she passed Southern's goalie for an open shot in the box. Salvador then put the Lady Braves in control 2-1 as she ripped a 30-yard shot in the 79th minute. The lead was short -lived, though, as Chloe Simms beat Alcorn's defense on the right side to knot the game at 2-2 five minutes later. Alcorn took a pair of corner kicks late, but a shot in the final minute was high and extra time was needed.

After an Alcorn corner kick and an offsides call against the Lady Braves, Southern committed a foul that set Mihaylova up for the game winner.

Okoro's score was her ninth of the season as the Nigerian native broke her own program record for most goals scored in a season. The Lady Braves held the advantage in shots (17-9), shots on goal (10-8), corners (5-4), and fouls (4-10).
