Soccer Players of the Week: October 16

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Paige Hayward of Texas Southern, Jessica Miller-Ulmer and Jordan Woodward, both of Grambling State have been named the SWAC soccer players of the week for their performances this past week of the regular season.

Offensive Player of the Week

Paige Hayward - Texas Southern

Str. I 5-7 I Sr. I New South Wales, Australia

Hayward scored four goals and added an assist while leading the Lady Tigers to wins over Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State this week. The striker from New South Wales, Australia, enjoyed as good of a Senior Day as any player could ask for on Sunday, as netted her second hat trick of the season and became Texas Southern’s career scoring leader in her last home match.Hayward scored two goals in the first 20 minutes Sunday, and later added an assist on Lemauriel Johnson’s 36th-minute goal to help TSU build a 6-0 halftime lead. The assist was her 58th career point at TSU, which surpassed former teammate Marlyn Campa to make Hayward the school’s all-time leader in points.

Defensive Player of the Week

Jessica Miller-Ulmer - Grambling State

D I 5-9 I Jr. I Surrey, British Columbia

Miller-Ulmer helped the Lady Tigers to a perfect weekend and as well as the unbeaten streak now at seven games. Her goal in the 17th minute gave Grambling State a 1-0 lead over Alabama State. She was part of a defense that surrendered just two shots on goal and 10 shots total for the weekend.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Jordan Woodward - Grambling State

GK I 5-7 I Fr. I Christchurch, New Zealand

Woodward played all 180 minutes of action in two SWAC games and picked up a pair of shutouts over Alabama State and Alabama A&M. She has now five shutouts on the season. Against Alabama State, Woodward registered two saves, both coming in the second half, to preserve the shutout win. On Sunday against Alabama A&M, Woodward didn’t face any shots.
