Soccer Players of the Week: October 9
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ariela Lewis of Alabama State, Brianna Norwood of Texas Southern and Sariah Orocu of Arkansas Pine Bluff have been named the SWAC soccer players of the week for their performances over the past week of action.
Offensive Player of the Week
Ariela Lewis - Alabama State
F I 5-4 I Sr. I Anchorage, Alaska
Lewis scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the Lady Hornets’ only game this week, contributing to three of the four goals in a 4-1 victory over Howard. The senior scored both of her goals in the first half, scoring in the fifth minute and again in the 16th minute. She assisted on a goal in the second half for the Lady Hornets.
Defensive Player of the Week
Brianna Norwood – Texas Southern
D I 5-4 I Jr. I San Antonio, Texas
Norwood tallied a goal and an assist while playing all 180 possible minutes and anchoring a TSU defense that recorded a shutout and went 1-1 this weekend. Norwood placed a perfect throw-in right to teammate Kelly Sanders in the goal box for TSU’s second goal in a 4-0 win over Arkansas–Pine Bluff; she then scored a goal of her own when she redirected a corner kick in to the back of the net. On defense, Norwood led a defense that allowed only eight shots on goal of the 21 shots TSU’s opponents took this weekend, allowing only a 38.1 percent percentage.

Sariah Orocu – Arkansas Pine Bluff
GK I 5-7 I So. I Longmont, Co.
Orocu had 11 saves and let in one goal in UAPB’s 1-0 loss to Prairie View A&M on Friday.
