Soccer Players of the Week: October 2
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Rebecca Holmes of Arkansas Pine Bluff and Brianna Norwood and Tammy Syron, both of Texas Southern have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference soccer players of the week for their performances over the sixth week of the regular season.
Offensive Player of the Week
Rebecca Holmes – Arkansas Pine Bluff
F I 5-7 I Jr. I Rancho Cucamongia, Calif.
Holmes scored UAPB's lone goal in its 1-1 tie with Southern on Friday. She added two goals and one assist in UAPB's 3-1 victory over Jackson State on Sunday for 3 goals and 1 assist on the weekend.
Defensive Player of the Week
Brianna Norwood – Texas Southern

Norwood played all 180 minutes this weekend and anchored a TSU defense that recorded two shutouts in Alabama, including a 1-0 win over defending champion Alabama State. Norwood led a defense that allowed TSU opponents only 10 shots on goal in two matches. The TSU defense has allowed only one goal in four conference matches for a total of 380 minutes played. Norwood also helped on set pieces, as she is the team’s strongest throw-in specialist.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Tammy Syron - Texas Southern

Syron continued the stellar start to her TSU career with two shutout wins this weekend. The freshman goalkeeper stopped all 10 shots she faced this weekend in leading the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 trip to Alabama, with the team winning both matches by scores of 1-0. Syron is 3-0-1 in SWAC play with three shutouts. She has saved 83 percent of the shots on goal she has faced this season. Her goals-against average in 11 matches in 0.94.
