James S. Liz Memorial Invitational
Prairie View A&M
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Three Southwestern Athletic Conference schools competed in the James S. Liz Memorial Tournament, which concluded play on Feb. 14. Alabama State finished in tied for eighth place with a team score of 54 over (906) for the event. Texas Southern finished in 12th place with a team score of 85 over (937), and Prairie View A&M rounded out the team standings with a team score of 120 over (982).
For the individual standings, Quincy Smith and Patricio Minondo of Alabama State finished tied for eighth overall. Smith fired rounds of 73, 72 and 73, to finish at 5 over, while Minondo shot rounds of 69, 72 and 77. Both players finished at five over for the event.
David Baker Jr. of Prairie View A&M was the only other SWAC player to crack the top 30. Baker Jr. finished the event in 27th place, after rounds of 76, 76 and 73 to finish the tournament at 12 over.
JSU Tiger Classic
Arkansas Pine Bluff
JACKSON, Miss. – Alcorn State, after finishing with a team score of 14 over (590), won the five team field JSU Tiger Classic on Tuesday.
Arkansas Pine Bluff finished the event in fourth place with a team score of 236 over (814) and Alabama A&M rounded out the standings in fifth place.
Daniel Racioppa of Alcorn State finished tied for first in the individual standings. Racioppa fired rounds of 74 and 70 to finish at even par for the tournament. Luther Thompson (4 over) and Spencer Rhodes (6 over) also finished inside the top five for the Braves, coming in at fourth and fifth respectively.
Bake Hampton (13 over) and James Watson (26 over) of Alabama A&M finished tied for 11th and 13th in the individual standings. Grant Cation of Arkansas Pine Bluff finished the event in 14th place (28 over), rounding out SWAC representation in the top 15.
JSU Tiger Classic
JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State finished in second, and Alcorn State finished in third in the women’s portion of the JSU Tiger Classic, that concluded play on Fab. 14.
Jackson State shot a overall team score of 127 over par (703) to take second, while Alcorn State fired a team score of 177 over (753) to round out the three team event.
Tastia Garcia and Keelin Floyd of Jackson State cracked the top ten finishing in 6th and tied for 7th respectively. Alcorn State also had two players make the top ten. Quinn Meyer and Erin Kopinak made finished in tied for seventh and ninth place.
Samford Spring Shootout
BIARMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State participated in the Samford Spring Shootout, which concluded play on Fen. 13. The Hornets would finish the one day, 36 hole event in fifth place, with a total of 44 over par (620) as a team.
For the individual leaderboard, ASU would have three players finish in the top 20. Chanelle Avarico finished in tied for 11th,after firing rounds of 75 and 77 to finish at eight over for the tournament. Dismary Marquez would finish the tournament tied for 18th, after rounds of 75 and 78 to finish at none over.
