Indoor T&F: Three Men's Meet Records Fall on Day 1
Three SWAC championship meet records fell Thursday during the first day of competition at the 2012 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Grambling holds an six-point lead in the team competition over Southern and Prairie View A&M, who are tied in second at the completion of five events heading into day two.
The record-setting day started with the first event as Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Terron Armstead shattered his own conference record in the shot put. He bettered his previous record mark by nearly three feet with a throw of 58-2.00
Darwin Price led Grambling to its team lead with a SWAC record setting time in the 3000 meters at 8:39.33. He also anchored the Tigers' title winning distance medley relay team, combining for a time of 10:36.24.
Two other individuals claimed championships on Thurdsay. Southern's Micah McCulloch won the long jump at 23-10.75, and Prairie View's Pierre Shepherd won the high jump with a leap of 6-10.75.
Jackson State's Brent Lee fell the SWAC record in the 60 meter preliminaries with a time of :06.71. He will be the top seed in Friday's final.
