Indoor Track & Field Continues Posting Solid Marks

ALABAMA STATE

Alabama State University's competed at the New Balance Invitational held at The Armory in New York. The Hornets had several solid performances as the men's and women's track teams competed against some of the nation's top collegiate athletes from over 130 teams.
 
Jasmine Pope led the women's team with an eighth place finish in the championship of the 60m dash, finishing the race with a time of 7.73.  She also had a 20th place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 25.14.

Lutrisha Altidor's time of 56.76 in the 400m dash gave her a ninth-place finish, while Tyrisha Chamber's high jump of 1.65m placed her 16th. Kesia Derilus finished 21st in the 800m run college division, crossing the finish line in 2:16.47.  The 4x400m relay team was 17th in the college division with a time of 3:53.25.
 
Teammate Shexnievia Bryant competed in the field events in the weight throw, with a best throw of 17.04m; earning her a 22nd finish out of 71 participants.
 
For the men, Shawn Lockhart had a solid seventh place finish in the 60m college dash with a time of 7.00, while Vincent Butler had an eighth place finish in the 200m college dash with a time of 22.06.
  
The Hornets return to action at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson University in Clemson, S.C.

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF

The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field season is well underway with several top performances.

In Jonesboro, at the Arkansas State Invitational, UAPB's Terron Armstead had a solid performance, placing first in the shot put (57-05.75), while fellow teammate Ninfa Barnard finished second in the 800 meter (2:14:94).

At the Saluki Invitational in Illinois, Barnard had another solid weekend, winning the 800 meter (2:15:10, 10 pts) and the one mile run (5:09.68, 10 pts). Terron Armstead had a personal record throw in the shot put, as he finished in second place with a throw of 57-11.00.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, Feb 11th at the Valentine's Day Invitational in Murfreesboro, TN.

MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE

The Mississippi Valley State men's and women's track teams recently competed in the 2012 Saluki Invitational. The Devilettes finished in seventh place on Saturday February 4th, while the Delta Devils claimed the fifth spot at the SIU Recreation Center in Carbondale, Ill.

Joyce Chumo claimed first place int he Women's 3000 Meter Run with a time of 10:20.64. Other notable performances included:

Tambriya Barney: 2nd - women's long jump (5.6m)
Queona Williams: 5th - women 200 meter dash (26.13), 8th - 400 women dash (1:00.11)
Quinton Weeks: 4th - men 400 meter dash (50.46), 5th - 60 meter dash (7.08)
Jose Lopez: 6th - men one mile run (4:27.45)
Jatarius Harris: 2nd - men 60 meter dash (6.98)
David White: 9th - men 200 m dash (23.12)

The men and women will head to Clemson, SC next on February 10th and 11th.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M

Myesha Dixon, Kia Allen, and Kelsi Alexander recorded personal best marks this past weekend as several members of the Prairie View A&M women's track team participated in the annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.

Dixon posted a career-best 8.74 in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles.  Overall, the junior from Houston finished seventh in the event. In the long jump, Kia Allen finished 11th overall with a personal-best mark of 5.63 meters. Alexander, a freshman from Houston, also ran a personal best of 57.61 in the 400.

The distance medley relay team of Martha Bustamante, Leticia Bustamante, Corinna Brown, and Sylvonna Thompson also had a solid meet with a season-low mark of 12:41.
The Lady Panthers return to the track in two weeks when they travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Invitational.
