Men's Indoor Track & Field Shows Solid Performance
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Hornet's Vincent Butler finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.52, while Isiah Golson had a ninth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6'-02".75). The men's 4x400 meter relay team earned a sixth place finish with a time of 3:21.27.
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Jackson men's and women's indoor track and field teams traveled to Illinois this weekend to compete in the 2012 Saluki Open, hosted by University of Southern Illinois. The Tigers posted 14 top 10 finishes, including a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay by JSU's "A" team (1. Louis Varella, 2. Bentrell McGee, 3. Jeremy Wilson, 4. Antonio Guice). 3:21.53. JSU's "B" Team also finished strong in the relay, earning fifth place with a time of 3:21.53 (1. Jamie McIntosh, 2. Geoffrey Brady, 3. Ibrahim Hinds, 4. Eugene Liddell)
Kenneth Hoskins came in second in the high jump with a leap of 2.08 meters. Antoine Guice posted a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.44. Just tenths behind, Louis Varella came in fifth with a time of 50.90. Bentrell McGee posted a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.28, while teammates Kenny Boyer and Geoffrey Brady posted sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively. Boyer timed out at 8.46 and Brady 8.47. B.J. Lee finished fourth with a time of 6.86, while Anaso Jobodwana grabbed fifth with a time of 6.91. Richard Kelly finished tied for sixth place with a time of 6.98. Kelly also finished ninth in the 200 meter dash (22.77) and Guice finished 10th (22.81). Eugene Lidell came in 10th place in the 800 meter run (2:01.28).
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Preston Woodard had a solid performance at the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational. Woodard finished second in the triple jump on Saturday, with a length of 15.42 meters. He also advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles finishing eighth overall. Fellow sophomore Pierre Shepherd finished sixth in the high jump after a mark of 2.01 meters, while Cordarren Soloman (8.51) and William Donelson (8.53) finished 7-8, in the 60-meter hurdles. Also posting season-best marks in their respective events were John Evans (60 meters, 200), Patrick Range (800), Atavion Brown (800), Lucio Rosas (mile), John Watkins (mile), Philip Thomas (3,000), Abel Simie (3,000) and Jordan Hoover (long jump). The Panthers return to action in two weeks at the Houston Indoor Invitational & Multi's on Friday, January 27 on the UH campus.
