Alabama State's Adams Wins Decathlon

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Second day action at the 2012 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships opened with the women's long jump and the men's 110m hurdles; the first of the remaining combined events for day two.

In the decathlon, Jeffrey Adams won three of the five events on Friday to take home the gold and win the event with 5900 points. The Alabama State senior finished first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.99), discus (32.72m), shot put (10.37m), and high jump (1.89m). Adams beat out Durante Ponder of Jackson State (5737) and Alabama A&M's Marion Malone (5632).

Myesha Dixon edged ahead from her first day score to finish with 4888 points and win the the heptathlon. The junior showcased solid performances over the two-day event, with marks of 37.35 meters in the javelin throw, 9.40 meters in the shot put, and 14.09 in the 100 meters hurdles. Alabama State's Tyrisha Chambers (4770) and Prairie View's Kia Allen (4304) took second and third place.
