Division Champs A&M, PVAM Advance to SWAC Finals
ARLINGTON - Top seed Alabama A&M and No. 2 seed Prairie View A&M will battle for the 2012 SWAC Bowling title on Sunday afternoon. A&M is seeking their third title, while PVAM is seeking their first ever. Match time is at 1:00 p.m. and will be shown tape-delayed on ESPNU, Saturday, March 10 at 9:30 p.m.
After a first round bye, A&M worked their way to the finals with wins over Alabama State (4-1) and Prairie View (4-3).
PVAM also had a first round bye. They opened with a win over Southern in seven games. After the loss to A&M, the Panthers eliminated Texas Southern (4-2) to earn the rematch.
The All-tournament team was announced on Saturday. The team was comprised of the five bowlers with the highest averages from Friday's pinfall.
Alabama A&M freshman Nicole Kleutgen (Wild Rose, WI) had a tournament high average of 212.6 highlighted the All-Tournament team and claimed tournament MVP honors. Kleutgen was joined on the all-tournament team by SWAC Freshman of the Year Danielle Walker (Keller, TX) of Alabama State, who shot 204.6 in her five games. Lejewlia Lewis (Prairie View, SR, Waco, TX), Shannon Pearson (Southern, SR, Denver, CO) and Dyanna Scott (Jackson State, SO, Flint, MI) rounded out the all-tournament team. Lewis had an average of 200.40, while Pearson shot 195.40 and Scott had a 193 average.
In addition to Saturday's action, Alabama State head coach Andrew Chatmon was recognized as the 2012 SWAC Bowling Coach of the Year, as voted on by league coaches.
