Grambling Wins SWAC Cross Country Championship
Clinton, Miss. - Grambling State clinched the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship in Men's Cross Country on October 31st.
The Tigers scored 47 points, finishing the 8k event with a time of 2:15:56.80. Prairie View A&M (2:17:46.53) and Mississippi Valley State (2:18:47.79) earned second and third places, with 63 and 64 points respectively.
Individually, Mississippi Valley State runner Daniel Kibet earned All-SWAC honors, after grabbing a first place finish with a time of 25:40.04. Darwin Price (26:06.22) of Grambling State took second, while Texas Southern's Brian Alvarado (26:36.62) claimed third.
In Addition to Kibet, Price, and Alvarado, runners Brandon Broden (Texas Southern) and Victor Kiplaget (Mississippi Valley) earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Completing the Second Team All-Conference were Christopher Ruffin (GSU), Abel Simie (PV A&M), David Pulliam (MVSU), Deonte Pope (GSU), Lucio Rosas (PV A&M).
Grambling Head Coach Bertram Lavell earned SWAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
