PVAM Headed to Bridgeport, CT fo Face UConn

INDIANAPOLIS--The 64-team field of competitors for the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee.

Two-time defending SWAC tournament champion and No. 16 seed Prairie View A&M (17-15) will be headed up the east coast for the first round of the tournament to face top seed and 4th-ranked Connecticut (29-4) in the Kingston Regional. The Lady Panthers and Huskies tangle Saturday at 1:30 eastern at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

No. 8 seed Kansas State (19-13) will square-off against No. 9 seed Princeton (24-4) in Saturday's other first-round game at 11 a.m. (EDT) on ESPN2.

Saturday's first-round winners will advance to the second-round game on Monday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. (EDT), also in Bridgeport.

The winner of Monday's second round showdown will advance to the NCAA Regional Semifinals, which will be played at the Ryan Center (7,657) in Kingston, R.I., on Sunday, March 25. The Kingston Regional Final is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27.

Each game of the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament will be televised live on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN Fullcourt.

ESPN will be using "whiparound coverage" during the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament taking viewers to the best action at a given moment. Each of this weekend's NCAA Tournament games will be available in their entirety at ESPN3.com.

This is the fourth appearance in the tournament for PVAM, while Big East Champion UConn has been in the dance 23 consecutive times, won seven national titles and was in the 2011 Final Four.

The Lady Panthers are seeking their first victory in the tournament, while the Huskies, who have claimed five of the last 10 NCAA titles and has a tournament record of 82-16. Their tournament winning percentage of .837 is the best in NCAA Tournament history.
