Regular Season Closes out, Tournament Field Set

Grambling 68, Alabama A&M 64
NORMAL - Whiquitta Tobar had 31 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Alabama A&M missed a chance to claim the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SWAC Women's Basketball tournament, falling at home to Grambling State. Four Lady Tigers scoredin double-fugures, led by Jasher Blocker who finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Markisha Patterson added 12 points, while Savannah Carter tallied 11 points and Cierra Ceazer contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

Alabama State 61, Jackson State 51
MONTGOMERY - Alabama State pulled away in the second half to knock off Jackson State. The game was tied at 22-all at halftime, but the Lady Hornets outscored JSU 39-29 in the second half. Kierra Paige led the way for ASU with 15 points. Millicent Jones followed with a double-double, dropping in 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jasmine Quinn also finished the game with double-figures for the Lady Hornets, scoring 10 points. Dana Hester was the only JSU player to score double-figures, finishing with 10 points.

Prairie View 58, Alcorn State 54
LORMAN - Prairie View overcame a sizeable halftime deficit to beat Alcorn State. PVAM trailed 34-25 at the break, but controlled the second half, outscoring the Lady Braves 33-20 in the final 20 minutes. Larissa Scott paced PVAM with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She was 9-of-11 from the field, and 3-for-4 from the freethrow line. Latia Williams chipped in 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Carolinsia Crumbly led Alcorn State with 17 points. Sharnika Breedlove added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Kiara Ruffin tallied 14 points.

Southern  64, Texas Southern 59
BATON ROUGE - Soutbern took a 10-point lead in at halftime and held on in the second half to beat Texas Southern. The Jaguars led 38-28 at halftime, but TSU scored the first 13 points of the second half to take a 42-39 lead with 12:40 left. However, Southern woke up and answered the rally with a 12-1 run to reclaim control of the game at 51-43 with 5:25 left. TSU chipped away at the lead, getting as close as three points at 55-52 with 1:24 left. But, the Lady Tigers would come no closer. Adrian Sanders had 21 points to lead Southern. Kendra Coleman added 16 points, while Lechell Rush contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. Morgan Simmons had 18 points and seven rebounds to pace TSU. Kayla West added 17 points and five rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
