SWAC Champs: Delta Devils Clinch at the Buzzer
Mississippi Valley State 56, Texas Southern 53
For the second time in as many games, Paul Crosby hit a game-winning three-pointer for Mississippi Valley at the buzzer. Tonight's, however, clinched the SWAC title for the Delta Devils, who won their 15th straight, 56-53 over Texas Southern.
Crosby finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Terrence Joyner led the Delta Devils with 17 ponts.
Still with a perfect 15-0 record in conference play, MVSU earned the SWAC regular season title outright in the final home game of the season.
Omar Strong led Texas Southern with 15 points.
Southern 55, Alabama State 53
Derick Beltran and Quinton Doggett combined for 40 points with 22 and 18, respectively as Southern defeated Alabama State, 55-53.
Tremaine Butler led the Hornets with 18, including a three-pointer to close the scoring, but it was not enough for ASU.
Southern stands alone in second place after overcoming a six-point halftime deficit.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff 61, Prairie View A&M 58
Mitchell Anderson scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, including a key rebound and pair of made freethrows with 19 seconds remaining to give UAPB a 61-58 win over Praire View. Louis Munks missed a possible tying shot from behind the arc as time expired.
Munks finished with 10 points, while Ryan Gesiakowski led the Panthers with 16 points.
Alabama A&M 81, Alcorn State 71
Casey Cantey scored 21, Jeremy Crutcher scored 20, and Demarquelle Tabb added 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Alabama A&M to a home victory over Alcorn State, 81-71.
The Bulldogs erased a 37-33 halftime deficit with 48 points in the second half.
Twann Oakley and Anthony Nieves each had 14 points to lead four Braves scoring in double figures.
