BATON ROUGE, La. - Prairie View trailed Alabama State 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 7th in the opening round of the SWAC Tournament, and the game never made it to the 8th. The Panthers scored 11 runs to win 14-4 in 7 innings.

Daniel Castillo earned the victory on the mound for the Panthers in relief working 2.0 scoreless innings after the Hornets chased starter Derrick Mitchell and took a 4-3 lead with a single run in the 6th.

Brad Benes led the PV offensive attack with a perfect 3 for 3 day at the plate and a pair of runs scored to go along with an RBI.

Joel Alvira worked 6.1 innings for Alabama State and took the loss. Richard Gonzalez had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Hornets.

PV will play Thursday against the Jackson State / Texas Southern winner at 6:00 p.m.  Alabama State plays the loser of that contest in a 12:00 p.m. elimination game.
