All Baseball Seeds Set Except for Top Spot in West
The home teams went 8-0 in SWAC play on Saturday and settled a number of seeding questions for the upcoming SWAC Baseball Tournament. The only question remaining is whether Southern or Prairie View will earn the top spot in the Western Division.
SWAC West #1 / 2 seed
After sweeping UAPB in a doubleheader on Saturday, Southern can clinch the top seed with a win over the Golden Lions on Sunday or a Prairie View loss to Grambling. PV stayed alive Saturday with a sweep of GSU.
SWAC West #3 seed
Grambling will be the No. 3 seed from the West in the SWAC Tournament and will open play against East #2 seed Alcorn State.
SWAC West #4 seed
Texas Southern clinched the No. 4 seed in the tournament with UAPB's loss in game one to Southern on Saturday.
SWAC East #1 seed
Jackson State completed its conference season at 21-3 after sweeping the series against Alabama A&M. The Tigers will face Texas Southern in the opening round of the tournament.
SWAC East #2 seed
Alcorn State clinched the No. 2 seed after sweeping a doubleheader over Alabama State on Saturday. The Braves hold the tie-breaker over the Hornets by virtue of their better record vs. division champion JSU, if the two teams finish tied for second.
SWAC East #3 seed
Alabama State is the No. 3 seed in the East after dropping a pair of games at Alcorn State on Saturday.
SWAC East #4 seed
Mississippi Valley State played a doubleheader at Oral Roberts in non-conferenc play on Saturday, losing 4-3 and 8-1.
