Both Jackson State and Alabama State completed three-game sweeps over the weekend as the Tigers swept Mississippi Valley State, and the Hornets knocked off rival Alabama A&M on the road.

JSU (13-2) maintains a 3-game lead in the division race over Alabama State (10-5) with a showdown set for this upcoming weekend in Montgomery between the two teams. JSU swept the earlier series in Jackson by a total of 5 runs.

Alcorn State (6-6) was out of league play at Southern Miss over the weekend. The Braves are alone in third place ahead of Mississippi Valley State (6-9). Those two teams meet this upcoming weekend as well in Itta Bena.

Alabama A&M (1-14) is out of conference play this week. The Bulldogs will need to rally and get some help in trying to qualify for the SWAC Tournament.

SWAC Western Division

Praire View A&M (9-2) now leads Grambling (9-6) by 4 games in the loss column after the Tigers fell twice in a 3-game series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-10) over the weekend. The Panthers were out of conference play at Dallas Baptist.

The series win moved the Golden Lions into fourth place, a half game in front of Texas Southern (4-10) in the battle for the final tournament berth from the Western Division.

Southern (8-7) climbed back above .500 with a series victory over Texas Southern. The Jaguars dropped the first game of the series, but rallied in the final two game.

PV and TSU play each other this upcoming weekend, and Southern travels to Grambling. UAPB is at Oregon State in non-conference play.
