PV Wins Series Showdown / Bama State Slides Up
Prairie View went on the road and took 2 of 3 at Grambling in a first-place showdown over the weekend. Alabama State moved alone into second place in the East with a series win vs. Alcorn State.
Western Division
Prairie View (9-2) moved a game and a half in front of Grambling (8-4) at the midway point of the conference race by taking the final two games of the series at Grambling. The middle game of the series the Panthers won in extra innings. The Tigers won the opener 1-0.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-9) is now just a half game behind Texas Southern (3-8) fighting for the fourth and final spot from the division in the conference tournament after beating Southern in game one of its series with the Jaguars. Southern rallied to win the final two games of the set to finish the first half at 6-6.
Texas Southern was out of conference play over the weekend and swept a home series with Texas College.
Eastern Division
Jackson State remained in control, but did drop a game at Alabama A&M giving the Bulldogs their first conference win and snapping a 17-game losing streak for AAMU. The Tigers (10-2) own a 3-game lead over Alabama State at the midway point. The Bulldogs are now 1-11 in league play.
Alabama State (7-5) moved into second place alone after taking 2 of 3 vs. Alcorn State on the weekend. The Hornets trail Jackson State by three games in the division, while Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State are each tied at 6-6 for third place.
MVSU played out of conference at Illinois over the weekend, dropping each game in the series to the Illini.
