Sandy and Johnson Headline All-SWAC Tennis Teams
ALEXANDRIA, LA - Alabama A&M junior Desta Sandy was voted Men's Tennis Player of the Year by league coaches on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Trenton Johnson of Prairie View A&M earned Freshman of the Year honors.
Sandy was the lone representative from A&M to earn a spot on the All-SWAC team. He had a 5-1 record at No. 1 singles in the two round-ups during the regular season. Meanwhile, Johnson also had a 5-1 record at No. 4 singles, which was tops among league freshmen.
With the exception of Player of the Year, members of the All-SWAC team are decided by their conference records during the regular season or two round-ups. For consideration, a women's player must play at least five matches at a particular position, while men must play in at least four. First team selections are the top player/duo at a particular position while the second-team selections are the second highest rated player/duo.
