MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama State University hosted Stillman College in a tennis double header with the teams splitting the outcome.

ASU’s women defeated Stillman 5-2, but the match did not start out the way ASU was hoping.  Stillman was able to record the point taking two of the three doubles, by winning at two and three.  ASU’s team of Amelie Buhl and Sheniece Rawlins was able to pull out a 9-7 win at one doubles.

The Lady Hornets were able to make up for the doubles loss by winning five of the six singles.  All singles wins were straight set victories with the lone loss coming at six singles in a forfeit.

The Hornets, like the Lady Hornets, lost the doubles point losing at one and two doubles.  The ASU doubles team of Roddrick Ivory and Lex Pierre at three doubles pulled out the lone doubles win by a score of 8-0.

The singles action was furious as both teams won three singles matches, but those three wins coupled with the doubles point gave Stillman a tough 4-3 win.

The ASU women move to 1-1 on the season and the men fall to 0-2.  ASU will host a tri-match on Saturday, Feb 12 with Kennesaw State and Alabama A&M.

The day will start with ASU facing Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. and Alabama A&M will then face Kennesaw State following that match.  The final match of the day will have SWAC rivals ASU and AAMU facing off around 6 p.m.
