INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Alcorn State will face No. 9 Texas A&M in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 13 at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.
The Braves are making their fifth NCAA appearance. They won the 2011 SWAC Tennis Championship and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
"We are very proud to represent Alcorn State University and the SWAC Conference against such an outstanding team as Texas A&M," Alcorn State head tennis coach Anthony Dodgen said. "The Braves are playing great tennis right now and we have been working hard in practice to get as close as possible to our peak performance level. We are going to give it our best effort and see how it goes."
Texas A&M earned the automatic bid for the Big 12 Conference by winning the Big 12 Championship title. The NCAA appearance is the 19th overall for Texas A&M.
The winner of the the contest will face the winner of the LSU-Indiana first-round match at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 for the right to advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships beginning May 19.
