Parker, Lorenz Earn Softball Weekly Honors
Brianna Parker of Texas Southern and Alicia Lorenz of Mississippi Valley State earned SWAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors respectively.
Parker started all five games for the Lady Tigers last week, going 7-for-14 at the plate as TSU went 3-2 including a sweep of Southern in SWAC play. She had two home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and scored three runs. Parker also walked three times, was hit by a pitch and stole a base. She had a slugging percentage of 1.071.
Lorenz had a stellar weekend, leading MVSU to a sweep of Jackson State in a battle for so first place in the SWAC East Division. She went 2-0 against the Lady Tigers, including an 105-pitch performance in a dramatic come-from-behind win on national TV in the series opener. Both of her appearances were complete games. In 15 innings pitched, Lorenz had an ERA of 0.47. She limited JSU to three runs, one earned, six hits and three walks. She also had eight strikeouts as the Devilettes took over sole possession of first place.
