MVSU Sweeps Into First Place Tie with JSU
The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes moved into a tie for the top spot in the SWAC Eastern Division with a dominating sweep of Alabama A&M. Prairie View continues two lead the West Division.
After a storm delayed the start of the series, the Devilettes blasted A&M 10-1 and 14-0 on Friday. Then MVSU wrapped up the series with a 5-1 win on Saturday. MVSU improved to 20-17 and 7-0 in the conference, moving into a first place tie with Jackson State (24-18, 7-0) who was idle in SWAC play this week.
In the SWAC West, Prairie View swept Grambling State. The Lady Panthers (15-9, 7-3 in SWAC) had a no-hitter pitched in the series by Callie Falls in the opener.
In other series in around the SWAC, Texas Southern won all five of their games this week, doubling up Our Lady of the Lake in a non-SWAC series, then taking three from Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The sweep of UAPB moved the Lady Tigers into second place at 4-3. Alabama State took 2-of-3 on the road against Alcorn State to move into third place in the East at 7-3.
