JSU Tightens Grip on East, West Race Jumbled
Jackson State remained unbeaten in league play with a sweep of Alcorn State over the weekend. JSU (7-0) is trying to stay ahead of second place Mississippi Valley State, who is also unblemished at 4-0.
JSU edged Alcorn 2-1 in the opening game of the 3-game series, then swept the Lady Braves 7-4 and 6-0 on Saturday. MVSU had the weekend off.
Alabama State lost a little ground, falling to 5-2 after dropping 2-of-3 at Alabama A&M. A&M won the first game 7-2, but ASU ripped the Lady Bulldogs 7-0 in game two. After storms halted play in the middle of the doubleheader, A&M rebounded to win the rubber game 4-2 on Sunday. The wins got the Lady Bulldogs out of the cellar, leaving Alcorn at the bottom at 1-6.
In the West, Prairie View holds a slight lead over a wave of pursuers. The Lady Panthers are 4-3, a game in front of Arkansas-Pine Bluff who is at 3-4. Grambling and Southern are tied for third with records of 2-5, while Texas Southern is trailing the field at 1-3.
