Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Alabama State University Lady Hornets golf team made their first appearance Thursday in the NCAA Tournament and finished the first day of competition in 24th place after shooting a 335. The regional is being held at the LPGA International Golf Course and measures 6,271 yards on a par 72 course.
“This is a great experience for our athletes,” head coach Gary Grandison said. “They represented our institution well and they are excited about getting back on the course Friday to make some corrections and improve their scores.”
Amelie Buhl was the low scorer for the Lady Hornets finishing with a 79. Aileen Meredith shot an 82, followed by Danielle Robinson’s 84, Jessica Williams’ 90 and Taaj Hubbard’s 91.
The Lady Hornets played the back nine first and made the turn tied for 23rd after shooting a +22. Meredith shot a two-over 38 on the team’s first nine holes which was tied for 39th. Buhl shot a 41 followed by Hubbard’s 43, Robinson’s 44 and Williams’ 45.
Coastal Carolina University leads after the first round following their 2-under 286, while the University of Alabama is only one shot back in second place after shooting a 287.
The Lady Hornets will begin the second round on the first hole with the first tee off time coming at 7:55 a.m. CT.
