MBB: Thomas named SWAC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has recognized Grambling State’s Shirmane Thomas as the SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during week 10 of the regular season.

Thomas averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in two wins over Prairie View A&M (won 80-71 this past Saturday) and Texas Southern (won 79-78 this past Monday). The senior guard scored 20 of his career-high 27 points in the first half as Grambling State defeated Texas Southern for the first time in over 10 years. He shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the floor and 50 percent (5-of-10) from behind the 3-point line in the two games.

In conference only games, Thomas ranks eighth in scoring at 15.0 points per game and ranks fourth in free throw percentage (.870) as he has made 20-of-23 from the charity stripe.
