KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman Mya Millner led Alabama State in scoring with a new career-high in a 104-51 loss to 12th-ranked Tennessee Sunday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Millner led a pair of players in double figures for Alabama State (1-7) with a career-high 17 points 47 (7-of-15) percent shooting, while Courtney Lee added 15 points on 50 (4-of-8) percent shooting from beyond the arc. Millner added five rebounds in the loss.
The Lady Hornets outscored Tennessee 40-20 off the bench, but the difference was the Lady Vols scored 33 points off of 23 Alabama State turnovers. Tennessee ran out to 61-26 half lead, with over half of their points (33) coming in the paint in the first half.
Alabama State finished the contest shooting 32.1 (17-of-53) percent shooting from the floor, while connecting on 33.3 (6-of-18) percent shooting from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 78.6 (11-of-14) percent shooting from the free throw line.
Mercedes Russell led six Tennessee (8-0) players in double figures with 22 points and six rebounds, hitting 80 (8-of-10) percent shooting from the floor. Meme Jackson added 19 points, while Rennia Davis added 18 points and nine rebounds in the win. Jaime Nared chipped in 14 points, while Anastasia Hayes added 13 and Evina Westbrook 11 for the Lady Vols.
The Lady Vols finished the contest shooting 51.3 (40-of-78) percent from the floor and 29.4 (5-of-17) percent from beyond the arc.
