BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference mourns the loss of Glenmar Smith, the longtime head bowling official for the SWAC who passed away on Thursday at the age of 64.

Smith served as the SWAC's head bowling official since October of 2009.  Smith officiated eight SWAC conference bowling championships, and a number of round-ups during his tenure as head bowling official.

“Mr. Glenmar Smith was one of the pillars of not only collegiate bowling in the Southern region, but youth bowling. He meant a great deal to the Southwestern Athletic Conference,” said Michael Boykins, Jackson State head bowling coach and chair of the SWAC bowling coaches committee.

“I have his daughter as a senior on my team, and she will be a constant reminder of Mr. Smith's contributions to not only the SWAC, but women's bowling,” Boykins added. “He was instrumental in putting on events for the SWAC, he was very dependable and had great integrity as an official. He was one of the most important parts of SWAC women's bowling. His involvement in the sport and with us as coaches will be greatly missed. We are privileged to have his dedication to women's bowling.”

Smith, a graduate of Southern University, received a Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) in Management and Accounting in 1977.  Smith also bowled himself and coached bowling in his spare time.

Smith was a Louisiana native and resided in Baton Rouge, La.
