Alabama State Women's Bowling Honored by NTCA

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Alabama State University bowling team and three student-athletes were recognized on Wednesday by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) for its academic success in the classroom.
The Lady Hornets were among the best in the country in team GPA as Alabama State posted a 3.215 average in the classroom.
To be recognized, a program must have a cumulative GPA or 3.2 or higher for the academic school year. Felician University garnered the best team GPA with a 3.741 average.
In addition to the team honor, the NTCA honored academic excellence to those who obtained a 3.4 or higher during the academic year.
Among the 229 honorees were three Alabama State student-athletes who were selected to the 2016-17 NTCA All-Academic Team – Jessica Sawmiller, Tiara Wilkins and Haley Young.
Alabama State wrapped up its 2016-17 campaign in historic fashion as the Lady Hornets stormed out the elimination bracket to defeat Texas Southern twice to capture the school's first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Bowling Tournament championship.
