Softball Players of the Week: April 18

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alcorn State infielder Sametria Collins and Texas Southern pitcher Jasmin Fulmore were recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as softball players of the week thanks to their standout efforts during games played from April 12-15.

Collins posted a .545 batting average, .727 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage over the weekend at Alabama A&M. She went 6-for-11 at the plate with a pair of extra base hits and three RBI. She also drew a pair of walks and stole a base as she helped the Lady Braves win the series against the Bulldogs and clinch the SWAC East Division title. The senior is hitting .315 on the year and is third on the team in hits (41) and runs scored (32) while leading the East Division champion in stolen bases (13-of-15).

Pitcher of the Week

Fulmore, who has earned her second-straight pitcher of the week nod, aided TSU to a 2-1 weekend as she pitched her seventh complete game in leading TSU to a 5-3 win at Southern on Friday. She struck out seven batters while scattering five hits, walking only one batter, and allowing two earned runs. The win improved her record to 7-2 for the season. The next day, Fulmore was called into relief duty and drastically slowed down the Jaguar offense as she struck out six batters while allowing only two hits and an unearned run in five innings of work. For the week, Fulmore recorded a 1.17 ERA and struck out 13 batters over 12 innings, as Southern batters hit a measly .159 against her.
