Prairie View A&M 8, Southern 6

BOX SCORE

BATON ROUGE, La. - Four runs in the ninth was enough to lift Prairie View A&M past Southern, 8-6 on Sunday.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings.  Southern would answer in the fifth and the sixth.  Scoring three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, to take a 6-3 lead.

 The Panthers would be the benificiary of two erros by Southern in the ninth, as it would score four runs, with only one of them being an RBI.  That lone RBI came via a sacrifice fly from Cody Den Beste.

Xavier Jefferson led the Panthers, going 2 for 3, scoring three runs and totaling three RBIs in the win.

Southern would be led byJohn Pope, who went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBis in the loss.


Houston 19, Alabama State 11

BOX SCORE

HOUSTON, Texas - In a high schring affair, Alabama State fell to Houston, 19-11 on Sunday.

The Hornets would fall behind big early.  ASU would allow the Cougars to lead 5-1 after three innings of play.  Alabama State would allow Houston to score nine runs in the fourth, to make the score 14-1 at that point.

The Hornets would try to mount a comeback.  ASU would score five runs in the fifth. and five runs in the eigth, but the deficit proved insurmountable.  

Cage Cox would go 4 for 5 from the plate, while tallying 2 RBIs in the loss.


Jackson State 11, Acorn State 6

BOX SCORE

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team took the home series against Alcorn State University 2-1 with a 11-6 victory over the braves in game three of the series Sunday afternoon at Robert Braddy Field.

The Tigers now 15-8 overall and 6-3 in conference now holds the best overall record in the SWAC and has the most conference wins in the East Division.

Coming in as a relief pitcher and pitching 4.1 innings, Jose Tirado recorded his first win of the season on the mound for the Tigers. Tirado recorded two hits against, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts in his first victory.

At the plate, Bryce Brown went 4-for-5 for three runs to collect the most hits and the most runs in the game. CJ Newsome, sophomore outfielder, went 1-for-3 at the plate but recorded four RBIs to help lead the JSU offense.

Other standout Tigers are Cornelius Copeland and Lamar Briggs who recorded two hits each and Jesus Santana and Stephan Vidal who recorded two runs each.

Mississippi Valley State 4, Alabama A&M 3

BOX SCORE

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State defeated Alabama A&M on Sunday, 4-3, to take the series over the Bulldogs.

Mississippi Valley would score all of its runs in the first inning.  Alex Bravo would contribute an 2 RBI single, o generate two of the Delta Devils four runs.

Alabama A&M would try to mount a comeback, scoring three runs in the seventh, but would come up a run short.  Cornelious Woods would hit a two run homer in the inning.

Bravo would go 2 for 4 on the day to pace the Delta Devils.

Woods would go 2 for 4 as well, to lead thre Bulldogs in the loss.


Arkansas Pine Bluff 14, Texas Southern 11

BOX SCORE

HOUSTON, Texas - Arkansas Pine Bluff defeated Texas Southern 14-11 in an offensive shootout on Sunday.

The Golden Lions jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the thrid inning.  UAPB would add three more runs in the fourth, to make the score 6-2

Each team would have explosive fifth innings, scoring seven runs each to make the score 13-9 in favor of the Golden Lions at that point.  UAPB would be able to hold off Texas Southern, to take the win, and avoid the series sweep.

Jordan Knox would go 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs for UAPB in the win.

Richard Alamo would go 1 for 5 with one RBI and one run scored in the loss.
