Texas Southern 7, Arkansas Pine Bluff 4
HOUSTON, Texas - A five run fifth inning was enough to lift Texas Southern to a 7-4 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff on Friday.
UAPB (3-13, 2-2 SWAC) would get the scoring started early. The Golden Lions put two runs on the baord in the first inning, Jaques Moore would score on a throwing error in the inning.
Texas Southern would follow a one run fourth, with a five run fifth. Jose Camacho would knock in a 2 run double to pull the Tigers within one. Chris Suarez would hit an 2 RBI double later in the inning, giving Texas Southern the 5-4 lead.
Those five runs would be enough, as the Tigers would hold the Golden Lions scorless the rest of the way for the win.
Camacho would go 3 for 4 for the Tigers on the day, with 3 RBIs and scoring a run in the win.
Serh Oliver would throw a complete game, allowing three earned runs, and striking out 13.
Juan Soriano would go 2 for 4 for UAPB, with 2 RBis in the loss.
Southern 6, Prairie View A&M 5
BATON ROUGE, La. -The Prairie View A&M University baseball team lost its Southwestern Athletic Conference road opener at Southern 6-5 Friday night at Lee-Hines Field.
The Panthers (4-18 overall, 1-3 SWAC) scored first in the first on a solo homer to right field by Cody Den Beste, his first of the season.
Trailing 2-1, Prairie View A&M regained the lead in the third. With one out, Corbin Jamison homered for the second straight game to left field to tie the game. Nathan Carter followed with a doubled to left field, and advanced to third on a single to left by Den Beste. Steven Williams' sacrifice fly scored Carter to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.
After Southern (4-9, 2-5) regained the lead in the fourth, Prairie View A&M tied the game in the seventh. Jamison led off the inning with single down the left field line and advanced to second on an error. Carter's sacrifice bunt moved Jamison to third, before Den Beste's sac fly scored Jamison to tie the score at 4-4.
Southern scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh and added a run in the eighth to lead 6-4.
In the ninth, Jamison led off with a double, moved to third on a flyout and scored with two outs on a wild pitch.
Den Beste went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to lead PVAMU at the plate. Jamison went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and RBI, and Tyrone Thomas went 2-for-3.
Edgar Sanchez took the loss on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, five runs (three earned) with three walks and a season-high seven strikeouts.

Houston 10, Alabama State 2
HOUSTON, Texas - The Alabama State Hornets fell to Houston, 10-2 on Friday.
Alabama State (7-12) took the early lead, thanks to a RBI doube by Gustavos Rios in the first inning, to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. The Hornets would struggle from that point on, being held scorless until the ninth inning. Alabama State would not be able to get runners in scoring position, totaling just eight hits on the night.
Cage Cox would go 3 for 4 from the plate to pace the Hornets, totaling an RBI in the contest as well.
Alcorn State 5, Jackson State 4
BILOXI, Miss. - Three runs in the eigth would be enough to lift Alcorn State past Jackson State on Friday.
The Braves (7-10, 2-2 SWAC) would get off to a good start, leading 2-0 after three innings. Jackson State (13-8, 4-3 SWAC) would answer in the fourth and sixth. Scoring one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
Alcorn State would take the lead back with three runs in the eigth. Patrick McMahon would drive in what would be the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
Lamar Briggs would go 2 for 4 with two RBis and one run scored for the Tigers in the loss.
Walter Vives would go 3 for 4 for the Braves, scoring a run and driving in an RBI in the win.
Alabama A&M 9, Mississippi Valley State 5
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Bulldogs rode solid pitching and a five-run third inning Friday to take a 9-6 win over Mississippi Valley State.
