LORMAN, Miss. – The legendary Steve McNair from the Alcorn State University football program was one of 100 players from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) on the 2019 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement of the 2019 class will be made on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 in Santa Clara, California at Levi’s Stadium prior to the college football national championship.

McNair is the all-time passing leader in FCS history with 14,496 yards. He was a 1994 All-America First-Team honoree and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.

The quarterback from Mount Olive, Mississippi is the only four-time SWAC Offensive Player of the Year winner in the league’s history. McNair, the 1994 Walter Payton Award winner, led the Braves to two SWAC titles and a pair of NCAA playoff appearances.

McNair led the nation in passing two-times, including 4,057 yards in 1992 and 5,799 yards in 1994.

With McNair, Alcorn never lost a game at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.

McNair graduated from Alcorn in 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education. He was a two-time Dean’s Scholar recipient.

Of the 5.26 million individuals who have played college football since Princeton first battled Rutgers on Nov. 6, 1869, only 997 players have earned induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, or less than two one-hundredths of a percent (.02%) of those who have played the game during the past 149 years.
