SWAC Women's Golf Championship Recap: Day 1

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alabama State leads after the first round of the SWAC women’s golf championship, with a first round of the SWAC Championship.

The Lady Hornets shot a first round 314 (+26) to claim the lead.  Texas Southern currently sits in second place the Lady Tigers shot a first round 334 (+46).  Prairie View A&M currently is in third after the Lady Panthers shot a first round 349 (+61).  Alcorn State rounds out the team standings with a 358 (+70) on day one.

Chanelle Avarico of Alabama State holds the first round lead for the individual leaderboard.  Avercio fired a first round even par 72 to hold a four shot lead over Aubrianna Jordan, who shot a first round 76 (+4).

Nia Station of Alabama State and Amber Kuykendall of Texas Southern each shot open rounds of five over par to sit in a tie for third.

Ouname Mhotsha of Alcorn State is in a tie for fifth with Madison DeRousse of Alabama State, after each fired opening rounds of 85 (+8). 

A three way tie for eighth with Celestine Nawa (Alcorn State), Jada McAlister (Alabama State) and Hilary Washington (Texas Southern) rounds out the top ten in the individual leaderboard.  Each shot an 85 in the opening round.

The SWAC will crown its women’s golf champion tomorrow with the final round scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT off of #10.
