BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State catcher/utility player Taylor Rosser and designated player/pitcher Charlene Castro have claimed the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, after standout play during games played March 5-11.

Softball Hitter of the Week - Taylor Rosser, Alabama State
C/UTL | Jr. | 5-7 | San Antonio, Texas

During the SWAC-MEAC HBCU Classic in Acworth, Ga., Rosser played in two games this week, both wins for the Lady Hornets. Versus Savannah State on March 9, Rosser was 1-for-2 with a run scored in an 8-4 victory over the Lady Tigers. During Alabama State's 13-4 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore, Rosser dominated UMES pitching, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI while sending three home runs -- two of them coming in the fourth inning of the victory -- out of the park.

On the weekend, she batted .800 and raised her batting average from .238 to .346. She also boasts an .885 slugging percentage thus far in the season.

Softball Pitcher of the Week - Charlene Castro, Alabama State
DP/P | Jr. | 5-7 | Natalia, Texas

Castro made one start this week, an efficent complete-game effort during Alabama State's 11-1 rout of South Carolina State. In five innings, Castro allowed just three hits and no earned runs. She fanned a career-best six hitters. Offensively, Castro helped her cause with a 2-for-4 line at the plate with two runs scored, four RBI -- including a double and a three-run homer -- and a stolen base.

Castro is the first Lady Hornet -- and first SWAC player in at least five years -- to win Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season.
