CONFERENCE NEWS & NOTES

- Grambling State has already tied their high water mark for most conference wins in a season (11)as it last won 11 conference games in the 2005-06 season. The Tigers currently hold the longest active winning streak in Division I men’s college basketball.

- Southern ranks first in the SWAC in rebounds per game and is ranked 23rd in the nation in that category (39.4). Also, Southern’s 13 blocked shots at Alabama A&M this past Monday were the most in a single game this season by a SWAC team.

- The top shooting team in conference only game remains Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a team shooting percentage of .464, who ranks slightly ahead of Prairie View A&M, who has shot .457 as a squad.

- Both Grambling State and Alabama A&M are ineligible for the SWAC Basketball Tournament due to a postseason ban for a low APR. The other eight teams will be in the postseason field. Mississippi Valley State has clinched the No. 8 seed in the tournament due to Alcorn State holding the head-to-head tie-breaker with them.

- Southern will clinch the right to host a quarterfinal postseason game (top four seed) with both a win AND a Jackson State loss AND an Alabama State loss.

-Close scoring race. Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Martaveous McKnight and Prairie View A&M’s Gary Blackston are neck-and-neck in the scoring race with McKnight scoring 536 points overall and Blackston accounting for 516 points in all games this season. Each are averaging 19.1 points per contest in all games.
