MBB: Smith Jr. named SWAC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has recognized Grambling State’s Ivy Smith Jr. as the SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during week 14 of the regular season. 


This is the third time that Smith Jr. has captured this award this season.

Smith, who was named the SWAC College Madness Player of the Week on Monday, averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in a pair of wins as the Tigers extended their school win streak to 10 games. He averaged 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from the field in the two games. Smith scored 28 points, on 9-of-16 shooting, with six assists, five rebounds and five steals in a 90-85 win at Prairie View A&M.  The sophomore added 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists in Grambling’s 78-55 victory at Texas Southern. 

In conference games only, Smith Jr. ranks sixth in scoring with 17.2 points per game and in third in assists per game with 4.8, ninth in free throw percentage (.780), second in steals (2.2 per game), and first in minutes per game (35.9).
