Southern 10, Howard 1 (F/5)
Southern 9, Howard 5

NEW ORLEANS, La. - During doubleheader action, Southern (2-0) swept through Howard with an offensive show to open the season Thursday afternoon at Wesley Barrow Stadium. The Jaguars took down the Bison 10-1 in game one, and completed the twinbill with a 9-5 victory in game two.

Game one started slowly, but Southern's Aubrion James limited the Bison to just three hits until the Jaguars' offense came to life. After Tiara Scott led off the bottom of the third with a double, Sydney Andrews brought her home with a RBI single and Jamani Greer plated Andrews with a double down the left field line.

After a 1-2-3 fourth inning, Southern blew the game open with a four-run inning capped by a RBI double from Scott and a two-run RBI single by Kiara Suttles. Scott later enforced the mercy rule win in the fifth inning, blasting a two-run shot to left to close another four-run frame.

James picked up the win with a workman-like effort, allowing four hits and one run. Andrews was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Scott went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

In game two, the Jaguars needed some late game heroics to take the win. After Howard took advantage of a fielding error to draw first blood in the third inning, Suttles smacked a RBI double to tie it in the bottom of the frame, and Greer went yard to left to give Southern a 3-1 lead.

The Bison then took the lead during a four-run fourth inning spaked by a two-run double from Trinity Gibbs. Scarlett Brock got one back for the Jaguars with a RBI single, and the Jaguars exploded for a five-run sixth inning to seal the deal, thanks to back-to-back home runs to start the rally and a two-run double from Suttles to cap it.

Suttles was 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Greer was 2-for-4 with three RBI, a triple and a run scored.
