MBB: Smith Jr. named SWAC Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has recognized Grambling State’s Ivy Smith Jr. as the SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during week 12 of the regular season.
This is the second time that Smith Jr. has captured this award this season.
The junior guard award named the SWAC Player of the Week in week four as well on December 5.

Smith averaged 22.0 points, six rebounds, four and a half assists and three steals in two wins to help Grambling State extend its winning streak to six games.
The sophomore shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the floor, 50 percent (3-of-6) from behind the 3-point line and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the free-throw line. He averaged 38.0 minutes in the two games.
The guard tallied 18 points, five steals and four assists in helping the Tigers hand Arkansas-Pine Bluff their first conference loss of the season in an 80-71 victory this past Saturday. Smith scored 21 of his team-high 26 points in the first half in an overtime victory over Mississippi Valley State this past Monday.
Overall, Smith ranks sixth in the conference in scoring with 15.2 points per game and leads the SWAC in assists (5.3 per game) and free throw percentage (.838) and is ranked second in steals (2.0 per game).
