Arkansas-Pine Bluff 72, Prairie View A&M 66
PRAIRIE VIEW, TX. – Martaveous McKnight racked up season highs in points (39), field goals made (13-of-20) and free throws made (10-of-11) to go along with six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot as the Golden Lions remained the lone undefeated team in Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday on the road at the William J. Nicks Baby Dome.
UAPB (6-13, 6-0 SWAC) sprang out to a 15-point halftime advantage with a 37-22 lead at the break and held off the host Panthers (5-15, 2-4 SWAC) with an efficient shooting display (46 percent as a team for the game).
Gary Blackston led Prairie View A&M with 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Southern 63, Alabama State 61
BATON ROUGE, La. – A late 13-6 run by the Hornets got them within a point on a Reginald Gee 3-pointer with three seconds remaining, but the Jaguars’ Torey Mayo made 1-of-2 free throws and time expired without the Hornets getting a last shot.
Southern (7-13, 3-4 SWAC) were led by Eddie Reese, who scored 14 points, Sidney Umude who had 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and Jared Sam nearly produced a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks.
Gee led the Hornets (3-15, 3-3 SWAC) with a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds.
Grambling State 72, Jackson State 45
JACKSON, MS. – The Grambling State University men’s basketball team left little doubt on Saturday as GSU upended one of the two unbeaten teams entering play on the day in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Jackson State, 72-45, at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
Grambling State (8-12 overall, 4-3 SWAC), winners of four straight, led from start to finish over Jackson State. GSU led 46-23 at the half and outscored Jackson State, 26-22, to pick up the SWAC win.
Ivy Smith, Jr., paced five Grambling State players in double figures as he finished just three assists shy of a triple-double. Smith tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Anthony Gaston, the SWAC College Madness Player of the Week, tallied 16 points, seven boards, two assists and one steal. Axel Mpoyo registered 13 points and five rebounds, while Shirmane Thomas, the SWAC Player of the Week, recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Diontae Jones chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Maurice Rivers led Jackson State (9-11, 6-1) with 12 points as he was the lone JSU player to reach double figures.

Alcorn State 68, Alabama A&M 52
LORMAN, MS – Trailing at the intermission, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program used a big second half to surge past Alabama A&M 68-52 Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The Braves (6-14, 2-5 SWAC) were down 24-23 at the half when they came out and shot .545 (18-33) in the second and .500 (4-8) from three-point range.
Junior Dante Sterling poured in a career-high 20 points. He was six-of-eight from the field and four-of-five from beyond-the-arc. He also grabbed five rebounds. Senior A.J. Mosby registered a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and also dished out five assists. Freshman Troymain Crosby pitched in with a solid eight points and five rebounds off the bench. Alcorn dominated the glass and held a 43-28 rebounding advantage and outscored the Bulldogs 11-0 in second chance points. The Braves also carried a 30-18 edge in points in the paint.
AAMU was paced by Arthur Johnson who recorded 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Julian Walters neared a double-double with 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Texas Southern 91, Mississippi Valley State 77
HOUSTON, TX – Donte’ Clark scored a season-high 41 points on 16-of-26 shooting including 7-of-12 from 3-point range and grabbed eight rebounds as the Tigers overcame a four-point deficit at halftime to top the Delta Devils at the H&PE Arena.
Texas Southern (4-15, 4-2 SWAC) responded with a big second half, outscoring Mississippi Valley State 49-31 in the second half.
Trayvon Reed added a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds and Brian Carey served as the floor general with 10 assists.
Jordan Evans led the Delta Devils (0-19, 0-6 SWAC) with 22 points.
