NEWS AND NOTES:

• For the second time in as many weeks, Texas Southern guard Joyce Kennerson set a new career-high in points, dropping 35 in a 77-58 TSU win over Sam Houston State on her way to a second-straight Player of the Week award. The junior currently ranks second nationally in scoring at 25.3 points per game.

• Alcorn State’s Miracle Rushing recorded her fourth double-double of the season in the Lady Braves’ win over Tougaloo on Nov. 30. Last season, Rushing only achieved one double-double, and the Lady Braves only had four double-doubles as a team.

• The SWAC has three players that currently rank among the top 15 nationally in steals per game: Grambling’s Shakyla Hill (4.33; 5th), Alcorn’s Alexus Freeman (3.71; 10th), and Prairie View’s Dominique Newman (3.57; 13th).

• With Prairie View’s Shala Dobbins (21.9; 17th) and Alcorn State’s Tia Sanders (21.3; 21st) alongside Texas Southern’s Joyce Kennerson (25.3l 2nd), the SWAC is one of three conferences -- the others being the Big Ten and the American -- that have at least three players ranked in the top 25 leading scorers in the country.

• Alabama State freshman Mya Millner scored a career-high 17 points versus #12 Tennessee on Dec. 3. The figure is the fourth-most points that the Lady Vols have given up to a single player this season.
