Tulane 95, Southern 76

New Orleans, La. – Southern University Jaguars could not contain the red-hot shooting from the Tulane University Green Wave, who shot 43 percent from beyond the arc (10-23) to cruise to a 95-76 win on Education Day on Wednesday afternoon at Avron B. Folgeman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

Southern began the contest on a 6-5 run when Tulane's Jordan Cornish hit the first of 10 Green Wave three-pointers to take an 8-6 lead. Tulane grounded out a 22-12 before Southern would respond with a run of their own.

SU went on a 13-4 run, cemented on two consecutive Eddie Reese 3-point shots to bring the game within 26-25 with seven minutes to go in the half forcing Tulane head Coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. to call timeout. TU added a lay-up out the timeout, SU's Reese answered right back with a lay-up of his own to keep the game within one, 27-28 with 5 minutes to go before intermission.

Tulane's Colin Slater knocked in a wide open shot from beyond the arc, to begin a 20-2 run over the last four minutes to take a 51-29 lead into halftime. The Jaguars went without a field goal in the final 4:34 of the first half.

Southern was not able to cut the lead in the second half dropping their sixth road game of the season. Reese and Jared Sam paced the Jaguars scoring 18 and 15 respectively. Sam recorded his third double-double of the season.

Southern will play a NBA style schedule this weekend as they head to Orlando, Florida to face the University of Central Florida on Friday, then to Iowa City, Iowa to face the University of Iowa on Saturday.

The Southern Jaguars' game versus the Florida A&M Rattlers on December 14 is being relocated to Clifford Seymour Gymnasium due to a scheduling conflict.
